NOCC Technician

This position provides proactive & reactive network surveillance, troubleshooting, coordination and restoration of service affecting or potentially service affecting network events / issues. The NOCC technician is responsible for acting as a SME (subject matter expert) for the Carrier Support group for Carrier trouble tickets. This individual will provide technical assistance to field maintenance personnel as well as provide trouble tracking, coordination, notification, escalation and documentation to resolve events/issues in order to efficiently minimize customer impact.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor switching, digital, optical and associated telecommunications and data equipment.
  • Perform trouble resolution
  • Identify network related troubles in a timely fashion, before they become client-affecting
  • Maintain accurate records in a variety of tracking resources.
  • Provide detailed root cause analysis of network outages.
  • Develop extensive knowledge of RNK products and services.
  • Perform Fault Analysis and Correction of switching, digital, optical, and other telecommunications equipment.
  • Serve as Single Point of Contact duties during Outages.
  • Escalate network problems both internally and externally as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate Shift and Outage Report records.
  • Interface with customers, engineers and venders to resolve trouble reports
  • Troubleshoot network events, voice and data outages on equipment including: Lucent 5ESS, Cisco routers, Nextone SBC, multi-vendor DSLAMs, multi-vendor ATM switches, and MUX’s
  • Stay up to date on Telecom and Internet industry and company languages
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience working with Data and Voice in the Telecommunications industry.
  • Previous Network Operations Center experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service
  • Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP, VoIP
  • Experience in troubleshooting various telecom circuits (T1, E1, DS3, OC3, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN architecture
  • MCSE and CCNA Certification desired
  • Understanding of the Public Switched Telephone Network signaling (SS7) and routing hierarchy and methodology for a converged ATM and Optical distribution network.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think proactively, and work to improve departmental procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to follow-through and take ownership of actions, objectives and individual performance.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with an eagerness to provide outstanding customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize several projects and tasks at one time.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard work hours where applicable

 

Software Development Engineer

Summary:

The Software Development Engineer will be responsible for support and code writing using JAVA/C/C++  to maintain and develop both proprietary and industry standard solutions in a Telecommunications environment. Software solutions will need to interface with Voice over IP switching network and SBCs. Using code solutions to resolve billing data information based on raw CDR feeds and develop in house monitoring looking at Mos, Jitter and other call quality baseline data. Our ideal candidate will also possess a strong working knowledge of telecom technology, as well be a hands-on self starter with strong communication skills, who is comfortable working with other engineering professionals in a fast-faced growing company.

 

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Program and manage a TFTP Linux-based server
  • Schedule upgrades and maintenance, create procedures and product plans, and communicate schedules and plans to internal and external teams.
  • Provide point of contact for major customer turnups and troubleshooting.
  • Develop in house billing solutions to resolve raw data.
  • Diagnose and test voice over IP network infrastructure.
  • Provide 3rd level support for monitoring software solutions
  • Create projection models of growth and resources on the switching fabric

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Unix/linux a must
  • Strong knowledge of JAVA, C and C++
  • 5+ years of IP experience a plus
  • Ability to perform unsupervised development and conduct independent system-level troubleshooting
  • Proven proficiency on multiple telecom systems
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications engineering principles in the area of data networking, transport, signaling and surveillance
  • Ability to work with multiple project teams simultaneously and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environment

 

NOCC Engineer                                                                       

This position is a technical leadership role and provides an internal point of escalation for the entire NOCC team. Create and maintain technical documentation establishing MOPs and procedures for the NOCC as well establishing technical training/coaching for all NOCC technicians. Provides proactive & reactive network surveillance, troubleshooting, coordination and restoration of service affecting or potentially service affecting network events / issues. The NOCC Engineer is responsible for acting as a SME (subject matter expert) for the Carrier Support group for Carrier trouble tickets. This individual will provide technical assistance to field maintenance personnel as well as provide trouble tracking, coordination, notification, escalation and documentation to resolve events/issues in order to efficiently minimize customer impact.

  • Develop extensive knowledge of RNK products and services.
  • Perform Fault Analysis and Correction of switching, digital, optical, and other telecommunications equipment.
  • Serve as Single Point of Contact duties during Outages.
  • Open, Work and refer Trouble Tickets to the appropriate level of support.
  • Escalate network problems both internally and externally as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate Shift and Outage Report records.
  • Interface with customers, engineers and venders to resolve trouble reports
  • Trouble shoot network events, voice and data outages on equipment including: Lucent 6X platform, Cisco routers, Nextone SBC, multi-vendor DSLAMs, multi-vendor ATM switches, and MUX’s
  • Provide technical assistance for service partners during service impacting network events.
  • Stay up to date on Telecom and Internet industry and company languages
  • Oversee and execute network maintenance with support teams, ensure customers are informed of the maintenance, and confirm service is restored after completion of maintenance.
  • Act as a resource for the Carrier Support team in order to assist in trouble ticket resolution
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-years experience working in Data and Voice in the Telecommunications industry.
  • Previous Network Operations Center experience preferred.
  • Basic Knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and topologies.
  • Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP and UDP.
  • Experience in troubleshooting various telecom circuits (T1, E1, DS3, OC3, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN architecture, ATM, Sonet, Ethernet, T1, Frame Relay, and xDSL, Lucent 5ESS, STP, SCP, DACS, TCP/IP, VoIP, and VoATM.
  • Thorough understanding of the Public Switched Telephone Network signaling (SS7) and routing hierarchy and methodology for a converged ATM and Optical distribution network.
  • Focus on quality and customer service so as to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to think proactively, and work to improve departmental procedures
  • Ability to simplify complicated terms or issues and convert them into a language that the customer can understand
  • Demonstrated ability to follow-through and take ownership of actions, objectives and individual performance.

Unix Systems Administrator

Using industry best practices, this individual will provide 24/7 support and quality assurance of data servers, networks and systems.  Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, responsibilities will also include reporting and documenting performance and utilization, as well as making recommendations to maintain reliable operations while meeting growth demands.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • 24/7 support of servers in data center and back office environments
  • Maintain enterprise security model and industry best practices
  • Perform network and systems security audits
  • Report on system performance and utilization, design upgrades, and scale systems to meet growth demands
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of system hardware and software configuration for all systems
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of all processes and procedures necessary for reliable data center operations
  • Ensure timely and complete backups

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of solid systems administration proficiency with Solaris, FreeBSD, Linux, and/or other Unix
  • 2+ years administering production environments hosted in a data center
  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VPN, WAN/LAN and physical layer devices such as Switches, Routers, Firewalls
  • Proficiency in configuration and maintenance of commercial and open source software such as Apache, BIND, OpenLDAP, Asterisk PBX, etc
  • Knowledge of server virtualization a big plus. 
  • Knowledge of database administration in MySQL, PostgreSQL and/or Oracle a plus.
  • High school diploma required, college degree preferred
